The place you work shouldn’t wear you down every day, but unknowingly that’s what uncomfortable chairs, messy desks, and poor lighting do day after day. With a few adjustments, however, you can improve your working environment and keep your desk from killing you. Your surroundings play an important role in influencing your productivity.

For an ideal workstation, you must consider 

Desk:

The single most critical piece of furniture which determines your work productivity. There are many factors of your desk that play a key role

Height of your desk – should allow you to comfortably sit and place your feet flat under the desk.

The width of the desk should allow you to place both arms parallelly to the ground and should allow you to comfortably type on the keyboard.

Setting up your monitor also matters. The poor placement could strain your eyes, create improper posture, etc. hence it is advisable to keep the screen 20-40 inches in front of you.

Organize your desk:

  • To be productive it is important to keep the only thing you need daily within reach.
  • Electrical and charging connections should be available at an arm’s length like Legrand’s Pop-up box, which is minimal and can be closed when not in use.
  • Store everything that you don’t need on your desk.
  • Keep personal decoration to a minimum.

Chair: 

After the desk, the chair is the most important furniture, especially as you sit on the chair during the majority of your day. So things to look for your ideal chair –

  • Good lumbar support
  • Seat depth
  • Chair height
  • Armrest
  • Ability to recline 

Lighting:

 The quality of lighting in the office and affect your mood and well-being. Harsh or dim lighting can cause straining of the eyes, fatigue, and stress. The positioning of the light also plays an important role in your work productivity.

Plants: 

Yes, it may sound silly, but plants can help improve productivity and happiness. Indoor plants are also said to help prevent fatigue during attention-demanding work.

Hence, it is very important to remember that your workspace should be specific to you. It should allow you to push through and be productive while supporting your well-being.
