An Ode To A Greener & Sustainable World

In this day and age, it has become increasingly important to consider the effects of our actions on the environment. We need to be mindful of how we consume energy and how our careless actions can impact the planet negatively.

Nations around the world are stepping up their efforts to combat climate change. The UN has taken the initiative with its COP26 conference for climate change 2021.

Legrand has joined the “We Mean Business” coalition dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To remind the governments of G20 member states of the need to intensify action to reduce global emissions, the Group signed a letter.

While the UN’s COP26 conference is underway, Legrand India’s vision and emphasis are on cutting CO2 emissions and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, a strategy that aligns with the Paris Agreement’s most ambitious objective of limiting global temperatures to 1.5°C.

Legrand CEO Benoît Coquart said: “By signing this letter, Legrand sends a strong signal to the G20 to take action,” and he reiterated Legrand’s commitment to responding to environmental, societal, and technological challenges daily.

Legrand’s Global Steps Towards Making A Sustainability

Legrand is taking responsibility for sustainability by limiting the impact of its activities on the environment and becoming the leading example of low carbon corporation. This goal is divided into two broad approaches:

  • Environmental Operations

Legrand will limit its impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption. In addition to limiting its waste production, Legrand is working to reduce its negative external impacts by adopting recovery programs.

The Legrand Group is responsible for combating pollution, particularly managing water and emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC).

  • A Holistic Business Ecosystem

The main action during the product design is to adhere to the inbuilt eco-design of The Legrand Group. The corporation will implement processes like risk assessment and identification of hazardous substances and controlled use during production. Product manufacturing requires us to do an extensive risk analysis on the type of raw materials we use. This is followed by finding a simple yet effective workflow in product manufacturing.

The Legrand Group believes that upcycling, recycling, and reusing will be a good idea and bring the necessary change to all industries. The RoHS compliance in our products assures customers that our products were made with impacts on the environment as our top priority.

  • Carbon Footprint Evaluation For The Group

Every year, Legrand estimates and publishes its Group Carbon Footprint using the international GHG protocol methodology. The goal is to assess CO2 emissions associated with the Group’s operations. The comprehensive calculation findings show that Legrand does not have a high carbon intensity as a materials transformation and assembly industry.

The primary direct or indirect sources of greenhouse gases created by Legrand are functions involving raw materials, purchased goods, and services, or logistics and consumption of industrial locations, in that order. In our initiative to achieve carbon neutrality we have taken steps like:

  • PEP certification for our products
  • RoHS Compliance
  • Exclusive supplier rights for Tata Nexon EV Chargers
  • Tree plantation drives at our plants
  • Making use of green energy
  • Using energy-efficient solutions
  • Directing the automobile industry towards hybrid or electric vehicles
  • Helping our supply chain reduce CO2 emissions
  • A 3% average annual reduction in energy consumption.

The Organization is innovating yearly to optimize resources and processes without compromising the quality of the product.

Steps Legrand India Is Taking Towards Making A Sustainable India

Category Contribution – Legrand’s Commitment:

The 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) has recently completed. Legrand has a critical role to play as a sustainability leader committed to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050…

By making small changes, all of us at Legrand can help to support our journey to Net Zero and protect our planet for future generations! We all spend a significant amount of time at work, so it’s a perfect location to continue our eco-friendly lifestyle or begin adopting a more sustainable one.

In its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, Legrand India emphasizes its determination to cut CO2 emissions. The commitment will be achieved by digitization in every aspect of work-life while working on the ground level.

Legrand India contributes to the national objectives of climate change by replacing low-efficiency products with higher ones, choosing products with a higher recyclability rate, and most importantly, incorporating the Environmental impact assessments.

Environmental impact assessments are essential while choosing products and solutions. Legrand commits to solutions for intelligent electrical infrastructure, solutions that are recyclable, sustainable, and energy-saving.

Legrand India’s COP26 campaign will allow consumers to replace older low-efficiency products and choose products with higher recyclability.

For example, products like:

  • Older generation ACBs may overheat, replacing them with Low Loss Legrand DMX3 ACBs, safer with a 61% recyclability rate.
  • Old wires & cables that are prone to overheating and decreasing the system efficiency can now be replaced with Intelligent Electrical Infrastructure called Low Loss Legrand SCP Busbar Trunking System with 91% Recyclability and LB+ Data lighting busbar integrable with modern lighting control systems with 95% Recyclability .

With the replacement of products, we can build a bridge towards a more sustainable and efficient world. We make sure that our consumers are walking with us in this march for change and betterment with this step.

We have a long way to go before we see a healthier and eco-friendly world. But by doing our bit, we can start slow and gradually make a big and positive impact on the environmental conditions of the world we live in.

In recent years, we have faced many hardships that we collectively overcame with each citizen’s unity and support. We are doing our best to give back to the country and nature we take so much from. Legrand actively tries to limit any damage to the environment and has successfully.

  • Come up with a system where we recover 90% of our waste.
  • Avoided 10 million tons of CO2 emissions.
  • Achieved 67% turnover overseen by certified environmental declarations.

This journey to preserve the planet and the true essence of India is going to be long but, with your support and conviction to achieve our goal, we will reach the destination of a greener, healthier and sustainable planet.

Join Legrand in its mission of making our planet healthy, sustainable, and emerald green!
